To work as a team member of the news department delivering credible, well-written, contemporary news that is entertaining, compelling and informative. Stories should be chosen and presented to attract the targeted audience and help drive ratings and revenue. This person will be expected to contribute to social media platforms and new media efforts.  This position is for a weekend anchor able to work with little supervision in a multi-deadline environment.


  • Be the primary deliverer of non-extended news copy. Must research potential news items from all available sources, pull relevant audio, write and deliver copy.
  • Track the ongoing flow of news, maintain contacts with news sources, keep current with topics of interest and maintain work file with current and accurate information of future events and issues.
  • Works quickly and efficiently; must be able to respond aggressively to breaking news situations and resolve unexpected problems.


  • Ability to find, develop and deliver compelling news topics.
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills. Concise and conversational broadcast writing skills
  • Consistently works hours required. Works more when required to meet deadlines or fill in including weekends, holidays, evenings, etc.
  • Ability to work in a fast and concise manner under pressure with demonstrated ability to present live and ad-lib unscripted news reports with continuity, meaning, and clarity with limited supervision.
  • Proven ability to handle stress.
  • Aggressively and effectively use social and new media platforms.
  • Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, and clients.
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Proficiency in digitally editing audio and computer literate.
  • Must be available to work Friday evenings/nights and Saturday


  • Two (2) years post high school education in journalism with skills in: writing, broadcast, news judgment, computers
  • Two to three (2-3) years on-air experience with a proven record of on-air success which should include:
  • Ratings performance, job stability and community involvement;
  • Ability to conduct, edit, and produce interviews for broadcast
  • Being conversational, well-read, knowledgeable, and articulate;
  • Variety of characteristics such as spontaneity and flair while also showing depth, good news judgment, and sensitivity;
  • Ability to enunciate clearly and interpret and read copy fluently;
  • Ability to understand and execute format philosophy and work with a team of other professionals in creating a distinctive sound;
  • Ability to properly operate studio equipment;
  • Ability to accept direction and be flexible with changes.
  • An in-house audition under the direction of KIRO may be required.


  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
