POSITION PURPOSE:

MyNorthwest is seeking a part-time writer for our network of sites, including: MyNorthwest.com, KIRORadio.com, 710Sports.com and KTTH.com.  Qualified candidates will be strong news and sports writers capable of generating a high quantity of high quality work.  Responsibilities include writing and producing accurate and entertaining content and working alongside radio staff to expand on-air commentary for use on our digital products.  Note:  This part-time position requires flexibility and versatility to assist in updating, developing and maintaining digital properties for the company. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to write, produce, gather, edit and update content for Bonneville Seattle's digital properties on a daily basis. May require the production and gathering of text, images, audio/video, etc. Must work closely with others in the building including legacy media personnel to accomplish this function.
  • Able to work independently with little supervision and self-edit. Requires a track record of dependability and evidence of a being self-starter.
  • As a key player of the team, must be willing to offer ideas, suggestions, and other initiatives for the company.

REQURIED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional news writing, editing, headline writing, and grammar skills. Ability to edit, produce, and create accurate, well presented content in a quick, timely manner.
  • Able to develop sources, pitch multiple story ideas, and follow beats.
  • Able to demonstrate sound news judgment and work under tight deadlines.
  • Excels in times of stress. Ability to adapt in breaking news situations.
  • Able to ghost write or adopt another contributor's style and tone.
  • Able to digest large quantities of audio and then write an article based on what you've heard.
  • Knowledge of Seattle's sports teams.
  • Able to engage with the audience on social platforms, comments section. Experience with Facebook, Facebook Live, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Understanding of SEO and able to optimize articles for search.
  • Experience working with analytics and making editorial decisions based on results.
  • Ability to support all digital properties and work with on-air personalities. Willingness to produce on-air content as needed.
  • Must possess computer skills and the ability to learn new programs and HTML. Must enjoy working with computers and technology.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4 year degree (journalism, communications) or commensurate work experience
  • Good working knowledge of Digital Content Management Systems, preferably WordPress, HTML, Photoshop, Audio and Video editing software is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers,
  • Maintain and receive information through oral communications;
  • Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
