Job Title: Producer, Jason Rantz Show

Reports to: Program Director, KTTH

 POSITION PURPOSE:

Produce the Jason Rantz Show, weekdays from 6am-9am. Write unique and show-centered articles for KTTH.com and MyNorthwest.com. Work with KTTH broadcast, news and digital teams to create high-quality content that informs, engages, and entertains a diverse audience on broadcast, digital and social platforms. This is not a traditional work schedule, as you'll be in the building from 4am through 10am daily, with the ability to work off-site, independently throughout the day.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a consistent, high degree of news accuracy and station branding
  • Find, evaluate, research news stories daily and pitch ideas
  • Recognize, conceptualize, and develop unique angles within daily news stories.
  • Provide topical background research, analyze and anticipate news, culture and entertainment trends
  • Help frame, develop, and manage the host(s) ideas and opinions in a way that enhances on-air product
  • Find, record, edit and mix audio on tight deadline
  • Find and book guests and manage show contacts
  • Cultivate and maintain a wide range of news resources and contacts.
  • Produce, edit, upload and distribute daily Jason Rantz Show podcast and daily After Show podcast (where you'll also serve as cohost)
  • Contribute to all social media channels promoting show and station (help conceive, execute and coordinate video content, memes, Facebook Live etc.)
  • Author a minimum of four blogs per week for KTTH/MyNorthwest.com (opinion, show stories, news, behind the scenes, etc.)
  • Collaborate with other teams across brands and departments to maintain brand consistency and efficiently use finite station resources.
  • Able to set up ISDN, Comrex, skype, etc. and help direct board ops on technical aspects of the show
  • Conceptualize and develop production elements (or "benchmarks" and features) to enhance show/station presentation and sound
  • Able to fill in for other producer(s) as necessary
  • Attend evaluation sessions and staff meetings as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be available from 4am-10am daily. Remaining hours may be used off-site, as this job is not your traditional 8 hours in the office. You'll be booking guests and developing stories throughout the day or evening and will be working, daily, unsupervised.
  • Must display consistent news judgment
  • Must be able to write clearly and effectively and edit work. Will be asked to submit writing samples.
  • Must be well organized and highly attentive to detail
  • Proven ability to handle stress and multi-task
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite and social media tools
  • Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality by not discussing: internal matters, company strategies, client's proprietary information, personnel matters, wage and salary information or any sensitive information with clients, competitors, listeners, the media or inappropriately with co-workers. Also by not distributing our proprietary research or other information to our competitors.
  • Familiar with laws on libel and slander
  • Ability to consistently work hours required. Works more when required to meet deadlines including weekends, evenings, etc.
  • Maintain positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management and clients
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience working in media (broadcast, communications, journalism, etc.)
  • 4 year degree (journalism, communications, politics) or commensurate work experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
